BeyondDrought.org (brought to you by the Florida Department of Environmental Pro
An educational project sponsored by the Florida Department of Environmental Proctection. From 1998 to 2000, Florida experienced the worst drought in the history of the state. Another drought of this magnitude is not expected for another two centuries. The drought impacted our environment, economy and quality of life. Agricultural crops were lost. The lack of water turned forests into tinderboxes. Recreation dropped with lake levels. Simple chores, such as watering lawns and washing cars, were limited to certain days and times. Beyond Drought fosters a greater awareness and understanding of the vital role water plays in the day-to-day life of Floridians as well as the millions of visitors that make the state their vacation destination every year. It also provides a greater sense of responsibility for how individuals can protect and manage this vital natural resource for future generations.
